Clay gives the dry, matte, high-texture look that wax cannot reach, because the clay particles absorb oil and scatter light. The trade-off is dryness — the formula has to keep enough emollient in to stay workable.

More clay means more matte and more volume, but also more drag and less workability. Loading is set against the target hold, not maximised.

Colour variants

Temporary colour clays add pigment to the same clay base. Pigment choice has to be checked for staining on light hair and against the rinse-out claim.

Rinse-out

Clay sits on the hair. The question the customer asks is whether it comes out in one wash — that is a formulation requirement, not a marketing line.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between styling clay and hair wax?

Clay carries more kaolin and gives a higher-matte, drier finish with more grip; wax gives a satin finish and stays more pliable. Clay is usually chosen for volume and separation, wax for a cleaner dressed look.

Does styling clay wash out cleanly?

Wash-out is a formulation choice. Heavier clays need a stronger surfactant in the shampoo that follows, so if you sell both, we can align the clay and the shampoo so they work as a pair.

Can you produce a tinted clay?

Tinted and multi-shade clays are produced on a shared base. Note that a colour-depositing claim carries regulatory consequences in the EU and US, so the label wording has to be agreed before development.

What is the minimum order?

The platform listing starts at 10,000 pieces per SKU. Multi-shade ranges are costed per shade.
